About the Grand Theater

The SLCC Grand Theatre, originally South High School, played a vital role in Salt Lake City’s educational landscape from its opening in 1931 until its closure in 1988. When South High closed, the building was transformed into part of Salt Lake Community College, with the Grand Theatre being preserved and repurposed as a cultural venue. This transition allowed the historic site to continue serving the community, now as a premier performing arts center, while maintaining its architectural charm and historical significance.
